Tony Uriano is a dedicated music educator and versatile performer committed to his students' individual growth. He recently graduated from Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) with dual degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Music where he studied voice under Dr. Margaret Astrup, and a Bachelor of Business Administration. This background allows him to bring a highly organized but deeply engaging approach to his instruction.
An active stage performer, Tony has taken on lead roles with the WCSU Opera Department, including Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus and Baron De Pictordu in Cendrillon, alongside featured scene performances as Marcello in La Bohème and Figaro in Le Nozze Di Figaro. He has also served as a Section Leader and soloist at Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church and had the distinct honor of performing at Carnegie Hall with the WCSU University Singers.
With over four years of professional teaching experience at programs like Bach to Rock and School of Rock, Tony instructs private voice, piano, and guitar. He focuses on core music fundamentals and tailors his curriculum to fit each student's unique learning style, skill level, and both personal interests and goals.
Outside of your lesson, Tony is an Eagle Scout and member of Manchester BSA Troop 25, and can usually be found spending time with his two younger sisters, or playing almost any kind of board, card, or video game.
"I always wanted to learn to sing and play piano but thought I missed my window as an adult. B-Side completely removed that anxiety. The lessons are entirely tailored to my goals, my pace, and my shifting work schedule. There's no judgment—just excellent, intuitive teaching that has helped me build confidence I didn't know I had."
"My 8-year-old used to fight me every time it was time to practice piano under her old instructor's rigid book method. Since switching to B-Side, the transformation has been incredible. She's learning concepts through songs she actually recognizes and loves, and she actually wants to sit down and play. The customized approach changed everything for us."
At B-Side Academy, we believe music education shouldn’t come off an assembly line. Every student arrives with a unique creative identity which includes their own learning style, goals, and musical tastes. That’s why we completely reject the cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all curriculum.
We don’t just teach people how to play instruments, we cultivate artists. Here's how we do it:
Custom-Built Learning Pathways: We don’t force students through a rigid, mass-produced method book. Instead, we design a tailor-made curriculum around the music that actually inspires you—whether that’s classical, rock, jazz, or pop. When foundational technique is taught through the music you love, learning becomes intuitive, not intimidating.
The "B-Side" Perspective: On a classic record, the A-side was the safe commercial hit, but the B-side was where the musicians truly experimented and showed their artistry. Traditional lessons often stop at just reading notes on a page. We dig deeper, balancing technical mastery with real-world musicality, ear training, improvisation, and creative expression.
Student Agency & Ownership: True learning happens when a student is driving the vehicle. By giving students a voice in choosing their repertoire and setting their goals, practice stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling like a passion project. We treat our students as musicians from day one.
Our Ultimate Goal: To build independent, confident musicians who possess the skills, critical thinking, and creative autonomy to make music for life.
From a full keyboard all the way down to a guitar pick, we'll provide everything you need for success during the lesson
Our instructors are dedicated to making sure you learn exactly what excites you in the way you learn best. We create a lesson plan from the ground up specifically focusing on your goals and interests
Whether it's an unconvential time, or constantly shifting availability, we'll always do our best to accomdate your schedule
